ITF-14 Carton Codes

An ITF-14 Carton Code is a 14-digit barcode used primarily for warehousing and logistics. It allows businesses to track units containing multiple instances of the same product or a mixed lot of assorted products. Some larger retailers and distributors require ITF-14 carton codes to streamline supply chain processes.

Example of an ITF-14 Carton Code

  • When a carton contains multiple units of the same product, the ITF-14 barcode’s reference number will match the EAN-13 product code on the individual items.
  • When a carton holds a mixed lot of products, a new product number is created for the mixed lot.

Packaging Level Indicator

The first digit of the ITF-14 code is the packaging level indicator. This number can range from 0 to 8 (9 is not used). Standard ITF-14 codes typically use “1” as the packaging level indicator.
